Overview
We typically need to know your computer service tag # in order to identify your computer. This helps us find the correct drivers and warranty information for your machine. It also let us know which machine to remote into for troubleshooting sessions.
What does a computer service tag look like?
- Microsoft Surface computers usually have a 12-13 character numeric service tag.
- Dell, Lenovo, and HP computers usually have a 6-10 character alpha-numeric service tag.
Below are a few different ways to locate your computer's service tag number.
Method 1
Sometimes the service tag number can be found on a sticker somewhere on the physical machine (usually on the bottom).
Method 2
If you can sign into the computer:
- Open the Windows Start menu at the bottom left of the screen
- Type in About Your PC and click to open it when it appears.
- You'll find it next to "Device Name" (it should be an alphanumeric string of text somewhere between about 9-13 characters)
Method 3
If you can sign into the computer and Splashtop Streamer is already installed:
- Open the Windows Start menu at the bottom left of the screen
- Type in Splashtop and click on Splashtop Streamer when it appears.
- A Splashtop Streamer window should open, displaying the Computer Name.
