What's the difference between Guest vs. Staff WiFi?

Why, WiFi, why! In most cases, you'll notice your office has a Guest WiFi network and a Staff WiFi network, but why do they exist?

Staff Network Policy

It's about security.

We only give CTD-imaged machines access to the secure Staff WiFi network. CTD-imaged machines by default will lock down network access to domain users only, adding extra layers of security for all users, devices, and files on the network.

Macs and other devices aren't locked down or imaged by CTD, so they need to use the Guest WiFi network access, or access the remote desktop server. If we joined a non-CTD-imaged computer to our secure staff network, then a virus could make it way through our network and files.

It's also about bandwidth.

For larger offices, having a separate Guest network allows us to keep smartphone streaming traffic (from apps like YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes):

1. Limited to a lower speed.
2. Off the domain network. 

This allows important services like Skype and file server access to not be affected by outside forces (aka John Doe's fresh Spotify playlist won't decrease your important Skype meeting's call quality).

WiFi Password Policy

It is our policy that we don't give out the password for Staff WiFi networks (we connect your computer to the Staff WiFi network during computer profile setup so that if you undock your CTD-imaged laptop, then you can continue having internet connectivity).
